About Puerto Calero holidays

Puerto Calero is a smart, low-key marina resort on Lanzarote’s south-west coast, a short drive from Puerto del Carmen. It suits holidaymakers who want a relaxed base with waterfront dining, sea views and easy access to the island’s volcanic landscapes, rather than a busy beach resort atmosphere.

The marina is the heart of Puerto Calero. Its palm-lined quays are home to sailing boats, yachts, cafés, restaurants and a small selection of shops, making it a pleasant place for a slow lunch, an evening meal or a stroll by the water. The pace is generally calm and grown-up, with nightlife centred on drinks and dinner around the marina rather than late-night clubs.

Puerto Calero does not have a classic sandy beach in the resort itself, and the coastline here is mostly rocky. If beach time is important, nearby Puerto del Carmen has long sandy beaches and a wider choice of seafront facilities. Playa Quemada, a quieter coastal village with dark volcanic shoreline, is also within easy reach for a more local feel.

One of the main reasons to stay in Puerto Calero is its access to the sea. Boat trips depart from the marina, including sailing excursions and dolphin-spotting trips, while the coastal path towards Puerto del Carmen is popular for walking, especially in cooler parts of the day. Diving and snorkelling are also available in the wider area, with Lanzarote’s clear Atlantic waters attracting both beginners and experienced divers.

The resort is well placed for exploring Lanzarote by car or organised excursion. Timanfaya National Park, the wine region of La Geria, the green lagoon at El Golfo and the dramatic cliffs and blowholes around Los Hervideros are all realistic day-trip options. After a day out, Puerto Calero offers a quieter place to return to than the island’s larger resorts.

Overall, holidays to Puerto Calero are best for couples, independent travellers and anyone looking for a polished marina setting with restaurants, sea air and a peaceful Lanzarote base.
