About Dubrovnik holidays

Dubrovnik is one of Croatia’s most distinctive holiday destinations, set on the southern Dalmatian coast with the Adriatic on one side and rugged hills behind. Its main appeal is the beautifully preserved Old Town, where limestone streets, baroque churches, monasteries and palaces sit within imposing medieval walls. It is a compact place to explore on foot, with plenty of atmosphere throughout the day and a particularly scenic setting at sunset.

Many holidays to Dubrovnik centre on the Old Town, but the wider resort area offers a good mix of coastal relaxation and sightseeing. Banje Beach, just outside the city walls, is the best-known spot for a swim with views back towards the Old Town. Sveti Jakov Beach is a little further away and often feels more tucked away, while the Lapad area has a more relaxed resort feel with seafront walks, swimming spots and a choice of cafés and restaurants.

There is plenty to do beyond wandering the Old Town’s narrow lanes. Walking the city walls is one of Dubrovnik’s classic experiences, giving panoramic views over terracotta rooftops and the sea. The cable car up Mount Srđ is another favourite, especially for wide views over the coastline and nearby islands. Boat trips to Lokrum Island are popular in season, offering gardens, rocky swimming areas and a peaceful break from the busier streets. Dubrovnik is also a good base for day trips along the coast or to nearby islands, depending on the time of year.

Eating out is a big part of a Dubrovnik holiday. You will find everything from simple bakeries and pizzerias to seafood restaurants and wine bars, with many menus featuring grilled fish, black risotto, octopus, local cheeses and Dalmatian wines. The Old Town is the busiest area for dining, while Lapad and the harbour areas can feel a little more laid-back.

Nightlife in Dubrovnik is more about atmospheric bars, terrace drinks and summer events than large-scale clubbing. Evenings are best spent strolling the Old Town, enjoying a drink in a tucked-away square or finding a seafront spot for views across the water. It is a strong choice for couples, culture lovers and travellers who want a coastal break with history, scenery and easy exploring.
