About Prague holidays

Prague is one of Europe’s most atmospheric city break destinations, combining medieval streets, grand squares, riverside views and a strong café culture. The Czech capital is compact enough to explore on foot, yet varied enough to fill several days with sightseeing, food, museums and neighbourhood wandering.

Most first visits begin in the Old Town, where cobbled lanes lead to Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock and colourful historic buildings. From here, it is an easy walk to Charles Bridge, one of Prague’s most recognisable landmarks, with views across the Vltava River towards Prague Castle. The castle complex sits above the city in Hradčany and includes St Vitus Cathedral, courtyards, gardens and viewpoints that help put Prague’s long history into context.

Across the river, Malá Strana is a particularly charming area, known for baroque churches, quiet side streets, traditional pubs and access to Petřín Hill. It is a good place to slow down between the city’s headline sights. The Jewish Quarter, Josefov, offers a more reflective experience, with historic synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery providing insight into an important part of Prague’s past.

Prague is also rewarding beyond the main historic centre. Vinohrady has leafy streets, independent cafés and local restaurants, while Žižkov is known for its more alternative feel and lively pub scene. Holešovice has galleries, design shops and contemporary places to eat, making it a good choice for travellers who have visited before or want to see a more modern side of the city.

Food and drink are a key part of a Prague holiday. You will find Czech classics such as goulash, roast meats, dumplings and hearty soups, alongside modern bistros, bakeries and international restaurants. Beer is deeply rooted in local culture, and traditional beer halls sit comfortably alongside craft bars and relaxed neighbourhood pubs.

Shopping ranges from familiar high street stores around Wenceslas Square and Na Příkopě to smaller boutiques, bookshops, glassware shops and design-led stores. Whether you are visiting for a short weekend or a longer cultural break, Prague offers a rich mix of history, architecture, easy sightseeing and everyday city life.
