Nearby Bakau is home to the Kachikally Crocodile Pool, a cultural site as well as a visitor attraction. Food is another highlight, with dishes such as benachin, a one-pot rice dish, and domoda, a peanut-based stew, commonly found in local restaurants.

Holidays to The Gambia are best suited to travellers who enjoy sunshine, a slower pace and a mix of beach relaxation with culture and wildlife. It is not a highly polished, large-scale resort destination, and that is part of its appeal: the experience is friendly, informal and closely connected to local life.
