Qawra is a relaxed seaside resort on Malta’s north-east coast, forming part of the wider St Paul’s Bay area alongside neighbouring Bugibba. It is a practical and easy-going choice for UK holidaymakers who want sea views, plenty of places to eat and good access to the rest of the island without staying in the busier historic centres.

The resort is best known for its long seafront promenade, which runs around the headland and links easily with Bugibba. It is ideal for gentle walks, especially in the evening when the waterfront is lively but not usually overwhelming. The coastline here is mostly rocky rather than sandy, with clear water, bathing platforms and lidos in season. Qawra Point is a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling when the sea is calm, though water shoes can be useful on the rocks.

Qawra has a good choice of restaurants and cafés, with menus ranging from Maltese and Mediterranean dishes to familiar international options. The atmosphere is informal, and many places are geared towards holidaymakers, making it an easy resort for couples, friends and families who like convenience. Nightlife is generally low-key, based around bars, pubs and hotel entertainment, with livelier options close by in Bugibba.

One of Qawra’s main attractions is the Malta National Aquarium, set on the seafront near Qawra Point. The area is also close to Salina Bay and the salt pans, where you can enjoy a quieter walk away from the main resort strip. From Qawra, buses make it straightforward to visit Valletta, Mdina, Sliema, Mellieħa and the ferry points for Gozo and Comino, although journey times vary with traffic.

Qawra suits travellers who want a straightforward Malta holiday with coastal scenery, swimming spots, restaurants and good transport links. It is not the place for wide sandy beaches or a secluded village feel, but it works well as a comfortable base for exploring the island while still having plenty on hand in the evenings.
