The city is small enough to wander comfortably, though some streets are steep, and it is packed with historic sights. For views, the Upper Barrakka Gardens overlook the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities, and the ferry across the water is a simple way to see more of the area.

Valletta is also a good choice for relaxed evenings. Restaurants range from traditional Maltese places serving rabbit stew, fresh fish and pastizzi to contemporary Mediterranean dining in restored townhouses and along the waterfront. Bars are generally sociable rather than rowdy, with wine bars, craft beer spots and small venues around Strait Street and the surrounding lanes. It suits couples, friends and culture-focused travellers more than anyone looking for a large-scale nightlife or beach-holiday scene.

Getting around is straightforward. Valletta is the hub for many buses across Malta, and ferries connect it with Sliema and the Three Cities, making day trips easy without hiring a car. Popular options include Mdina, Rabat, the harbour towns and coastal areas elsewhere on the island. With Malta International Airport close by, transfers are usually short, making Valletta particularly convenient for a long weekend or a longer holiday combining sightseeing, dining and island exploring.
