Budva is one of Montenegro’s best-known coastal resorts, set on the Adriatic in the Budva Riviera. It suits holidaymakers who want a classic seaside break with plenty to do close at hand, from beaches and boat trips to an atmospheric old town and a lively evening scene.

The heart of Budva is its walled Old Town, a compact maze of stone lanes, small squares, churches, boutiques and café terraces. It is a pleasant place to wander during the day, but it becomes especially appealing in the evening when restaurants and bars fill the narrow streets. The town walls and citadel offer lovely views over the rooftops and out towards the sea, while the waterfront promenade links the old centre with the marina and busier resort areas.

Budva’s beaches are a big part of its appeal. Slovenska Beach is the main resort beach, stretching along the bay with sunbeds, cafés and watersports in season. Mogren Beach, reached by a coastal path from the Old Town, has a more tucked-away feel and is one of the most popular spots for swimming. Richard’s Head Beach sits just outside the walls, making it handy for a quick dip between sightseeing and lunch. In the wider Budva area, Jaz Beach is also a well-known option, especially for those who prefer a broader stretch of shore.

Food in Budva ranges from simple grill houses and pizzerias to seafood restaurants and Montenegrin taverns. Menus often feature grilled fish, calamari, pasta, fresh salads, cured meats and local cheeses, with plenty of places geared towards visitors. Evenings can be relaxed or energetic depending on where you stay: the Old Town has wine bars and terrace restaurants, while the promenade and beach areas are known for louder bars and clubs in the summer months.

Popular things to do include boat trips along the coast, swimming and snorkelling, visiting nearby Sveti Stefan for the views, or taking a day trip to Kotor and the Bay of Kotor. Budva is busiest in July and August, so travellers looking for warm weather with a slightly calmer feel may prefer late spring or early autumn.
