Vilamoura Holidays

Vilamoura is one of the Algarve’s best-known resort areas, built around a large marina lined with restaurants, cafés and bars. It has a polished, well-kept feel, with smart hotels, landscaped streets and an easy holiday rhythm that suits couples, groups and families who want comfort, good facilities and plenty to do close at hand.

The marina is the main hub of the resort. By day, it is a pleasant place for a stroll, a coffee or a relaxed lunch overlooking the boats. In the evening, it becomes livelier, with waterfront restaurants serving Portuguese, Mediterranean and international food, plus cocktail bars and late-opening venues. Vilamoura has nightlife, but it is generally more refined and marina-focused than the bigger party resorts elsewhere in the Algarve.

Beach days are a major part of holidays in Vilamoura. Praia de Vilamoura sits close to the marina and is convenient for sunbathing, swimming and beach bars. On the other side of the resort, Praia da Falésia is one of the Algarve’s standout beaches, known for its long stretch of sand and distinctive red cliffs. It is a good choice for long walks as well as relaxed days by the sea.

Vilamoura is also a strong choice for golf holidays, with several well-regarded courses in and around the resort. Even if you are not playing golf, there are plenty of other ways to spend your time, from boat trips along the coast to dolphin-watching cruises, water sports, cycling and coastal walks. The Cerro da Vila archaeological site offers a small but interesting look at the area’s Roman past, just a short walk from the marina.

The resort is close to Quarteira, which has a more traditional seafront atmosphere, and it is well placed for exploring other parts of the central Algarve. Faro Airport is within easy reach by transfer, making Vilamoura a convenient option for a relaxed Algarve holiday with beaches, dining and activities all close together.
