About Alanya holidays

Alanya is a lively resort on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, set between the Taurus Mountains and a long sweep of blue sea. It sits to the east of Antalya city and has a distinctive look, with a rocky peninsula, a historic castle above the harbour and beaches stretching out on both sides. The resort suits holidaymakers who want sunshine, plenty of places to eat and drink, and more to do than simply stay by the pool.

Cleopatra Beach is Alanya’s best-known stretch of sand, running along the western side of the peninsula and backed by cafés, hotels and a seafront promenade. The water can shelve quite quickly in places, so it is worth taking care when swimming. On the eastern side, Keykubat Beach is another popular option, with a more open feel and easy access from the main resort area. Boat trips from the harbour are a classic way to see the coastline, with many routes passing sea caves and the headland beneath the castle.

Alanya’s historic sights give the resort real character. Alanya Castle spreads across the hilltop and offers wide views over the coast, while the Red Tower near the harbour is one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks. Damlatas Cave, close to Cleopatra Beach, is a compact natural cave known for its stalactites and stalagmites. The cable car linking the beach area with the castle hillside is a convenient way to enjoy the views without the steep walk.

Eating out is easy, with everything from simple kebab shops and pide restaurants to seafood places around the harbour and international menus aimed at visitors. Evenings can be relaxed or lively depending on where you go. The harbour area has the busiest bars and late-night venues, while the beach promenades and side streets offer quieter spots for dinner and drinks.

Alanya works well for a sunshine holiday with a bit of variety. It has beaches, history, coastal scenery and a busy resort centre, all in a setting that feels more established than purpose-built.
