About Florida Orlando holidays

Florida Orlando is one of the USA’s best-known holiday regions, centred on Orlando in inland Central Florida. It is not a beach destination, but it is a major base for theme parks, resort hotels, shopping, restaurants and easy day trips across the state. For UK holidaymakers, the area is especially popular because it combines big-name attractions with a wide choice of accommodation, from hotels on International Drive to villas and resort communities around Kissimmee and Lake Buena Vista.

The main draw is the world-famous theme park scene. Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando are all in the wider Orlando area, with rides, shows, water parks and themed dining that can easily fill a holiday. Staying in Lake Buena Vista puts you close to Disney, while International Drive is handy for restaurants, shops and transport links to several attractions. Kissimmee is a common choice for villa stays, particularly for travellers who want more space and self-catering flexibility.

Away from the parks, Orlando has plenty to offer at a slower pace. Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk are popular for evening meals, entertainment and shopping without needing a full park day. Winter Park, north of downtown Orlando, has leafy streets, museums, independent restaurants and scenic boat tours through its lakes and canals. Nature lovers can explore places such as Wekiwa Springs State Park, where Florida’s freshwater springs, woodland trails and wildlife provide a contrast to the resort areas.

Orlando’s food scene is varied and practical, with everything from casual American diners and steakhouses to international restaurants, food halls and family-friendly chains. Shopping is another big part of many holidays, with outlet centres and large malls offering a broad mix of brands.

Although Orlando is inland, both Florida coasts can be reached for a day trip with a hire car. Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center are popular options to the east, while the Gulf Coast is further but known for calmer waters and softer sand. Overall, Florida Orlando suits travellers who want a busy, flexible holiday with major attractions, good facilities and plenty of choice in where to stay.

Florida Orlando Holidays FAQs

No. Orlando is inland in Central Florida, so it is not a beach resort. However, beaches on the Atlantic Coast, such as Cocoa Beach, can be reached on a day trip by car, and the Gulf Coast is also possible with a longer drive.
