About Cala Ratjada holidays

Cala Ratjada is a lively harbour resort on the north-east coast of Majorca, set around a working fishing port and a string of attractive coves. It has a more local, coastal feel than some of the island’s purpose-built resorts, with fishing boats in the harbour, pine-backed beaches nearby and a compact centre that is easy to explore on foot.

Beach time is one of the main reasons to choose Cala Ratjada. Cala Agulla is the best-known beach in the area, a wide sweep of pale sand backed by pine trees and low hills, with clear water and a scenic setting. Son Moll is closer to the resort centre and handy if you want a beach within easy reach of hotels, cafés and shops. Smaller Cala Gat is a pretty cove near the harbour and lighthouse route, suited to a quieter swim when conditions are calm. Cala Mesquida, a larger dune-backed beach, is also within easy reach for a day out.

Around the harbour and seafront you’ll find plenty of restaurants, from relaxed tapas bars and cafés to seafood restaurants serving fresh fish and paella. The resort has a sociable evening atmosphere, especially in summer, with bars, terraces and music venues around the centre. Nightlife is lively enough for drinks after dinner, but it is generally more laid-back than Majorca’s biggest party resorts.

There is plenty to do beyond the beach. A walk to the Capdepera lighthouse offers sea views towards Menorca on a clear day, while the nearby hilltop town of Capdepera is worth visiting for its medieval castle and traditional streets. Coastal walks, boat trips, snorkelling and cycling are popular, and the surrounding north-east of Majorca has a more rugged feel than the south-west of the island.

Cala Ratjada suits couples, groups and families who want a resort with good beaches, a working harbour, restaurants and easy access to scenic day trips. It is a good choice if you like a holiday base with atmosphere, but still want natural coves and quieter corners close by.
