Magaluf is one of Majorca’s best-known resorts, set on the island’s south-west coast within easy reach of Palma. It is lively, sociable and firmly geared towards holidays by the sea, with a long sandy beach, plenty of places to eat and drink, and some of the island’s most established nightlife.

The main beach is a big part of the appeal. Magaluf Beach has soft sand, clear shallow water and a wide choice of watersports in the warmer months, making it a convenient spot for long days in the sun. Just offshore, the small island of Sa Porrassa gives the bay a distinctive backdrop. The promenade is lined with cafés, bars and restaurants, so it is easy to move between the beach and a meal or drink without going far.

Magaluf is particularly popular with groups and younger holidaymakers thanks to its nightlife. The resort’s main strip, around Punta Ballena and the surrounding streets, is known for late-night bars, music venues and clubs. There are also more relaxed beachfront venues and hotel bars for visitors who want an evening out without staying up until the early hours.

Eating out is straightforward, with a broad mix of international restaurants, fast food, British-style pubs, casual cafés and Spanish options. The resort is not the place for a quiet rural Majorcan dining scene, but it is practical, varied and well suited to visitors who like having lots of choice close to their accommodation.

There is more to Magaluf than nights out. Families and couples often enjoy nearby attractions such as Katmandu Park, while boat trips, snorkelling excursions and coastal cruises are popular ways to see more of the surrounding coastline. Palma Nova is close by for a change of scene, and Palma itself can be reached for shopping, sightseeing and the cathedral.

Magaluf suits holidaymakers looking for a busy resort with a fun atmosphere, a good beach and everything within easy reach. It is less suited to those wanting a quiet, traditional Majorcan escape, especially in peak summer, when the resort is at its most energetic.
