Sóller is one of Majorca’s most characterful places to stay, set in a fertile valley of orange and lemon groves beneath the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. It is not a beach resort in the usual sense; the town sits a few kilometres inland, with the sea reached by the vintage tram to Port de Sóller. The heart of Sóller is Plaça Constitució, a lively square lined with cafés and overlooked by the striking church of Sant Bartomeu. The town has a mix of tapas bars, bakeries, courtyard restaurants and small hotels, with a more local feel than many purpose-built resorts. Nightlife is generally low-key, centred on drinks and dinner rather than late clubs.

One of Sóller’s best-known experiences is the historic wooden train from Palma, which travels through tunnels and mountain scenery before arriving close to the town centre. From there, the old tram continues down to Port de Sóller, where you’ll find a sheltered bay, sandy beaches, a marina and a seafront promenade with restaurants. It is an easy day out or evening trip if you want time by the water.

There is plenty to do around Sóller itself. Can Prunera Museum of Modernism is worth visiting, and the town’s streets are enjoyable for a slow wander, especially around the weekly market. Walkers are particularly well placed, with routes into the Tramuntana mountains and nearby villages such as Fornalutx and Biniaraix. The scenery is a major part of Sóller’s appeal, from terraced hillsides to dramatic peaks and citrus orchards.

Holidays in Sóller suit couples, independent travellers and anyone looking for a quieter Majorcan base with culture, mountain views and convenient links to the coast. It is atmospheric rather than flashy, and ideal if you prefer cafés, walking trails and traditional streets to large resort entertainment.
