About Menorca holidays

Menorca is the gentler, more low-key side of the Balearics, known for its clear coves, unspoilt countryside and relaxed seaside resorts. It suits UK holidaymakers who want beach time, good food and scenic days out without the busier feel of some larger Mediterranean islands.

The coastline is one of Menorca’s main draws. On the south coast you’ll find pale sand and turquoise water at places such as Cala Galdana, Son Bou, Santo Tomás and Cala en Porter, while the north coast has a wilder feel, with rugged scenery and quieter bays. Resorts vary in style: Cala’n Bosch is popular for marina-side dining and easy-going family holidays, Son Bou has one of the island’s longest beaches, and Arenal d’en Castell has a sheltered bay that works well for swimming. Punta Prima and Binibeca offer a more traditional coastal atmosphere, with whitewashed buildings and sea views.

Menorca is also rewarding away from the beach. The island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with walking and cycling routes through pine woods, farmland and coastal paths. The Camí de Cavalls, a historic route around the island, is a great way to explore shorter scenic sections rather than tackling the full trail. For viewpoints, Monte Toro is the highest point on the island and offers wide views on a clear day.

Mahon, the capital, is known for its impressive natural harbour, waterside restaurants and Georgian-influenced architecture. Ciutadella, on the west coast, has a beautiful old centre with narrow streets, a cathedral and a picturesque harbour lined with places to eat. Menorca also has important prehistoric sites, including the Naveta d’Es Tudons and Talayotic monuments, which add a distinctive cultural side to a holiday.

Food is a highlight, especially if you enjoy simple Mediterranean cooking. Look out for seafood, Mahón cheese, ensaimadas and local dishes such as caldereta de llagosta, a lobster stew traditionally associated with the island. Whether you stay in a resort hotel, self-catering apartment or smaller coastal base, holidays to Menorca are best enjoyed at an unhurried pace, with time for beach-hopping, harbour strolls and scenic island drives.

Menorca Holidays FAQs

It depends on the style of holiday you want. Cala’n Bosch is good for marina restaurants and easy resort facilities, Son Bou has a long sandy beach, Cala Galdana is a scenic bay with access to coastal walks, and Arenal d’en Castell has a sheltered beach popular with families. Mahon and Ciutadella are better if you want history, harbour views and more local atmosphere.
