About Fuerteventura holidays

Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands’ best choices for a relaxed beach holiday, with a coastline shaped by long sandy bays, rolling dunes and clear Atlantic water. It has a drier, more open landscape than some of the other Canaries, with volcanic hills, wide plains and a breezy climate that makes it especially popular with windsurfers, kitesurfers and anyone who prefers space over crowds.

The island’s resorts each have a slightly different feel. Corralejo, in the north, is one of the liveliest bases, with a harbour, plenty of restaurants and easy access to the spectacular Corralejo Natural Park, where pale dunes run down towards the sea. From here, many visitors also take boat trips across to the small island of Lobos. Caleta de Fuste, on the east coast, is convenient for the airport and has a sheltered bay, a marina and a straightforward, family-friendly resort layout. Further south, Costa Calma and Morro Jable are good bases for the Jandía peninsula, known for some of the island’s broadest beaches and dramatic coastal scenery.

Fuerteventura is not just about staying by the pool. Inland, you can explore whitewashed villages, old windmills and viewpoints across the island’s volcanic interior. Betancuria, the former capital, is a worthwhile stop for its historic centre and mountain setting. The fishing village of El Cotillo is another favourite, with a quieter atmosphere, seafood restaurants and a rugged coastline nearby.

Food is generally relaxed and unfussy, with Canarian dishes such as papas arrugadas with mojo sauce, grilled fish and local goat’s cheese commonly found on menus. Resort areas offer a wide choice of international restaurants too, which makes eating out easy for couples, families and groups.

Fuerteventura suits travellers looking for sunshine, spacious beaches and a laid-back pace. It is a practical year-round option from the UK, with short transfer times to several resorts and enough variety to combine lazy days by the sea with scenic drives, watersports and small-town exploring.
