About Los Gigantes holidays

Los Gigantes is a scenic resort on Tenerife’s west coast, best known for the huge volcanic cliffs that rise dramatically from the Atlantic. The setting gives the resort a more distinctive feel than many larger holiday areas in Tenerife, with sea views, a working marina and a relaxed pace that suits couples, older travellers and anyone looking for a quieter base.

The resort centre is compact, with most of the activity around the marina, the small harbourfront, and the streets above it. Restaurants tend to be informal and welcoming, with plenty of choice for seafood, Canarian dishes, tapas, international favourites and easy-going café meals. Many places make the most of the views, especially around sunset, when the cliffs and ocean are at their most atmospheric.

Los Gigantes does have a beach: Playa de Los Guios, a small black-sand beach close to the marina, with striking views towards the cliffs. It is not a long, wide beach resort, so it is better suited to a few hours by the sea than full days of beach-hopping. Sea conditions can vary, so it is sensible to follow local advice before swimming. There are also coastal viewpoints and nearby swimming spots, while neighbouring Puerto de Santiago and Playa de la Arena offer more options within a short taxi ride or walk, depending on where you are staying.

Boat trips are one of the main reasons to choose Los Gigantes. Excursions usually depart from the marina and may include cliff-viewing cruises, whale and dolphin-watching trips, and short coastal outings. Kayaking and paddle-based activities are also available in suitable conditions. On land, the resort is a good base for exploring the west of Tenerife, including the mountain village of Masca, the Teno area and scenic drives through volcanic landscapes.

Nightlife in Los Gigantes is low-key rather than lively. Expect relaxed bars, live music in some venues, and drinks by the marina rather than late-night clubs. The resort is also quite hilly in places, so visitors with mobility concerns may prefer accommodation close to the marina or main centre.
