Medulin Holidays

Medulin is a relaxed seaside resort on the southern tip of Istria, just a short drive from Pula. Once a fishing village, it has grown into one of the area’s most popular holiday bases, with a lively summer feel but a more easy-going atmosphere than larger coastal resorts. It suits travellers who want beaches, boat trips, waterfront restaurants and straightforward access to some of Istria’s best coastal scenery.

The main beach is Bijeca, a long, shallow bay with sand and fine shingle, making it one of the better options in Istria for paddling and swimming. Around the wider Medulin coastline you’ll also find rocky bathing spots, small coves and clear water that is typical of this part of Croatia. The seafront promenade and harbour are the centre of resort life, especially in the evening, when people wander between ice-cream shops, café terraces and restaurants overlooking the boats.

Eating out in Medulin is a big part of the appeal. Menus often feature grilled fish, calamari, scampi, pasta and Istrian specialities, alongside familiar holiday choices. Many restaurants are casual and family-run, with plenty of places to sit outside in summer. Nightlife is generally relaxed rather than club-focused, with beach bars, cocktail bars and seasonal music venues creating a sociable atmosphere without feeling overwhelming.

There is plenty to do beyond sunbathing. Boat trips run to the small islands of the Medulin archipelago, and many visitors head to Cape Kamenjak near Premantura, a protected peninsula known for rugged cliffs, coves, walking and cycling routes. Watersports such as paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing are commonly available in the warmer months. History is close by too: the Vižula archaeological site in Medulin gives a glimpse of Roman-era life, while Pula’s famous amphitheatre and old town are easy to visit on a day or evening trip.

Medulin works well for couples, families and groups who like a resort with plenty on hand, but without losing its coastal village character. It is especially appealing if you want a beach holiday with simple day trips, good food and a scenic Istrian setting.
