Trogir Holidays

Trogir is one of the most characterful holiday bases on Croatia’s central Dalmatian coast, set between Split and the island of Čiovo. Its compact old town sits on a small island linked by bridges, with honey-coloured stone lanes, Romanesque and Renaissance buildings, and a relaxed waterfront that is ideal for an evening stroll.

The main draw is the UNESCO-listed historic centre. You can wander without much of a plan and still come across atmospheric courtyards, small churches, cafés tucked into narrow alleys and the impressive Cathedral of St Lawrence, known for its carved portal. Kamerlengo Fortress, at the western end of the old town, is another highlight, with views over the marina and seafront.

Trogir is a good choice if you like history and coastal scenery in the same place. The old town itself is more about culture, dining and boat trips than beach days, but there are swimming spots nearby. Many visitors head across to Čiovo, especially around Okrug Gornji, where pebble and shingle beaches offer clear water, beach bars and watersports in season. Pantan Beach, near the mainland side of Trogir, is another option, with a more natural feel.

Eating out is a big part of a Trogir holiday. Expect Dalmatian menus featuring grilled fish, seafood pasta, black risotto, meat from the grill, local olive oil and Croatian wines. The old town has plenty of konobas and terrace restaurants, while the waterfront is a pleasant place for a drink as boats come and go.

Nightlife in Trogir is generally low-key rather than club-focused. Evenings tend to revolve around relaxed bars, live music in summer, late dinners and walks along the promenade. For a busier night out, Split is close enough for an evening visit.

Popular things to do include boat trips to the Blue Lagoon and nearby islands, day trips to Split, and excursions to Krka National Park. With Split Airport very close by, Trogir is also convenient for a shorter Croatian break, while still feeling historic, scenic and distinctly local.
