Sharks Bay Holidays

Sharks Bay is a relaxed Red Sea resort area on the northern side of Sharm El Sheikh, well placed for a short transfer from the airport and close to the shops, restaurants and evening entertainment around SOHO Square. It feels quieter than Naama Bay, with most holidays centred on beachfront hotels, sea views and easy access to the reef.

The bay is best known for its clear water, coral and marine life. Many hotel beaches are set beside a reef shelf, so access to deeper water is often by jetty or marked swimming area rather than a long, gently shelving sandy beach. This makes Sharks Bay particularly appealing if you want to snorkel straight from the shore or join diving trips without needing to travel far. Sea shoes can be useful, and it is important not to stand on or touch the coral.

Days here tend to be unhurried. Many visitors spend their time by the pool, snorkelling, taking a boat trip or booking a dive course. Popular excursions from Sharks Bay include boat trips towards Tiran Island, diving and snorkelling trips around the wider Sharm El Sheikh coastline, and desert experiences such as quad biking or Bedouin-style evening trips. Ras Mohammed National Park is also a well-known day trip for underwater scenery and desert landscapes.

Eating and drinking is mainly based around hotel restaurants, beach bars and nearby SOHO Square, where you will find a choice of international restaurants, cafés and casual places for an evening drink. Nightlife in Sharks Bay is generally low-key compared with Naama Bay, with hotel entertainment, relaxed bars and a more polished resort feel. If you want a busier night out, Naama Bay and the Old Market area can usually be reached by taxi.

Sharks Bay suits holidaymakers who want a comfortable Red Sea base with good snorkelling, hotel facilities and a calmer atmosphere, while still being close enough to Sharm El Sheikh’s busier areas for shopping, dining and excursions.
