Agios Ioannis is a small, relaxed resort on the south-west coast of Mykonos, best suited to holidaymakers who want sea views, a good beach and easy access to Mykonos Town without staying in the busiest part of the island. It has a quieter, more laid-back feel than the island’s main party areas, making it a good choice for couples and travellers who prefer a scenic base with a slower pace.

The resort is centred around Agios Ioannis Beach, a sheltered stretch of sand and fine shingle with clear, shallow water. It is a lovely spot for swimming, sunbathing and watching the boats pass across the Aegean. From parts of the bay, you can look towards Delos, the ancient island just offshore, which adds to the area’s appeal at sunset. Some sections of the beach have sunbeds and tavernas nearby, while other parts feel more natural and peaceful.

Eating out in Agios Ioannis is generally low-key, with a handful of beachside tavernas, hotel restaurants and local places serving Greek and Mediterranean dishes. For a wider choice of restaurants, cocktail bars and late-night venues, Mykonos Town is only a short drive away. This means you can enjoy the island’s famous dining and nightlife scene when you want it, then return to a calmer resort setting.

There are a few pleasant things to do close by. Ornos, with its busy beach and waterfront restaurants, is nearby, while Mykonos Town offers the island’s best-known sights, including Little Venice, the windmills and the narrow lanes of the old town. Boat trips to Delos are also popular for those interested in ancient history, with departures usually from Mykonos Town.

Agios Ioannis works particularly well for a beach holiday with a relaxed atmosphere. It is not a large resort packed with attractions, but that is part of its charm: days here are more about swimming, lingering over lunch, enjoying the view and dipping into the livelier parts of Mykonos when it suits you.
