Ornos is one of Mykonos’ most convenient beach resorts, set around a sheltered bay a short journey south of Mykonos Town. The main draw is Ornos Beach, a sandy curve with calm, shallow water that is usually well suited to swimming. Across the narrow headland is Korfos Bay, which has a very different character. It is more exposed to the wind and is best known for windsurfing and kitesurfing rather than lazy swimming. This gives Ornos a useful choice of beach experiences in a compact area: sheltered bathing on one side and watersports on the other.

Eating out is a big part of a holiday in Ornos. You will find traditional Greek tavernas, seafood restaurants, relaxed cafés and more stylish beachside venues, many with views across the bay. Evenings are generally sociable rather than full-on. There are bars for cocktails and late drinks, but Ornos is not as intense as Mykonos Town, which is close enough for an evening out by bus, taxi or hire car.

For days away from the beach, Ornos is a handy base for exploring. In summer, small boats and water taxis often connect nearby south coast beaches, making it simple to visit places such as Platis Gialos, Psarou and Paradise without relying entirely on the roads. Mykonos Town is also within easy reach for its whitewashed lanes, harbour, windmills and Little Venice. Boat trips to the archaeological island of Delos usually depart from Mykonos Town and are one of the island’s most rewarding excursions.

Overall, Ornos works well for travellers who want a comfortable beach resort with good facilities, a relaxed atmosphere and quick access to the rest of Mykonos.
