About Tivat holidays

Tivat is a relaxed resort on Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor, set between calm Adriatic waters and green hills. It is best known for Porto Montenegro, the smart marina development that has brought waterfront restaurants, bars, boutiques and polished promenades to what was once a quieter coastal town. Despite this upmarket edge, Tivat remains easy-going, compact and practical, making it a convenient base for exploring the wider Kotor area.

Holidays in Tivat suit travellers who like scenic sea views, leisurely meals and short strolls rather than a packed resort strip. The waterfront is the main focus, with cafés and restaurants looking across the marina and bay. You’ll find Montenegrin and Mediterranean cooking, including grilled fish, seafood pasta, risottos, salads and Balkan-style meat dishes, alongside more international options around Porto Montenegro.

Beaches in and around Tivat are generally small, pebbly or paved bathing spots rather than long sandy beaches. Belane Beach and the Seljanovo area are handy for a swim close to town, while Plavi Horizonti, a sheltered sandy beach on the Luštica Peninsula, is a popular option for a beach day by taxi, hire car or local transport. The bay’s water is usually calmer than the open coast, which is good for swimming, paddleboarding and boat trips.

For things to do, take a wander through Porto Montenegro, visit the town’s seafront parks, or head out on the water to see more of the bay. Kotor’s UNESCO-listed old town is within easy reach and is one of the most popular day trips, with medieval lanes, churches and dramatic mountain scenery. Perast, boat trips to Our Lady of the Rocks, and drives around the Bay of Kotor are also straightforward from Tivat.

Evenings are sociable but not overly wild. Expect marina-side drinks, relaxed cocktail bars and restaurants rather than large clubs. Tivat is also home to the area’s international airport, so transfers can be very short, making it a particularly convenient choice for UK holidaymakers who want a scenic Montenegrin break without a long journey after landing.

Tivat Holidays FAQs

Yes, Tivat is a good choice if you want a relaxed bay-side base with restaurants, marina views and easy access to Kotor, Perast and the wider Bay of Kotor. It is more modern and low-key than historic Kotor, but very convenient.
