Calpe Holidays

Calpe is a well-established Costa Blanca resort with a relaxed seaside feel, known for its broad sandy beaches, working fishing port and the striking Peñón de Ifach rock that rises above the town. It suits holidaymakers who want classic Mediterranean scenery, plenty of places to eat and drink, and a slower pace than some of the larger Benidorm-style resorts.

The main beaches are Playa Arenal-Bol, close to the town centre, and Playa La Fossa, also known as Levante Beach, on the other side of the rock. Both offer long stretches of sand, seafront promenades and a good choice of cafés, restaurants and shops nearby. For a quieter swim or snorkel, smaller coves such as Cala El Racó and Cala Calalga are also worth seeking out, especially outside the busiest summer weeks.

One of Calpe’s biggest draws is the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park. The lower paths give excellent views over the coastline, while the higher route is more demanding and best suited to confident walkers with suitable footwear. At the foot of the rock, the marina and fishing port are good places for a stroll, and seafood restaurants here are especially popular in the evening.

Away from the seafront, Calpe’s old town has narrow streets, painted murals, small squares and a more traditional Spanish feel. It is a pleasant contrast to the beach areas and is a good place to stop for tapas or a quiet drink. The Las Salinas salt flats, close to the town, are another distinctive feature, with birdlife often visible from the surrounding paths.

Evenings in Calpe are generally relaxed rather than rowdy. Expect beachfront bars, family-run restaurants, ice cream parlours and terrace dining rather than large nightclubs. There is enough atmosphere for a sociable holiday, but the resort remains more laid-back than many bigger coastal centres.

Calpe is a practical choice for UK holidaymakers, with Alicante Airport the most common arrival point and Benidorm, Altea and Moraira all reachable for day trips. It is a good fit for beach breaks, walking, scenic coastal views and easy-going Spanish resort holidays.
