About Orihuela holidays

Orihuela is a varied Costa Blanca holiday choice, best known to many visitors for its coastal area, Orihuela Costa, as well as its historic inland city. For UK holidaymakers, the appeal is the mix of Mediterranean beaches, relaxed residential resorts, golf, restaurants and easy access to nearby towns such as Torrevieja and Murcia.

Along the coast, Orihuela Costa has several sandy coves and Blue Flag-style resort beaches, including La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor. They are generally well set up for holidays, with promenades, beach bars in season, sunbeds in some areas and places to eat close by. The coastline is broken up by rocky headlands and small bays, so it feels more varied than one long beachfront. Coastal walks are a pleasant way to explore between some of the beaches, especially outside the hottest part of the day.

The atmosphere is easy-going and international, with a large expat community and plenty of English spoken in the main resort areas. Restaurants range from Spanish tapas bars and seafood spots to British, Irish, Indian and Italian options, particularly around La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca. For shopping, dining and casual evenings out, Zenia Boulevard is one of the area’s main hubs.

Nightlife in Orihuela Costa is lively rather than club-focused. Expect bars, pub-style venues, live music in some places and late dinners, especially in summer. Cabo Roig strip is one of the best-known areas for an evening drink, while quieter resorts such as Campoamor suit travellers who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Golf is a major draw, with well-known courses in and around the municipality, including Villamartin, Las Ramblas and Campoamor. Away from the coast, inland Orihuela is worth visiting for its old streets, churches and cultural sights, including the cathedral and historic centre. The wider area also makes it easy to plan day trips to Torrevieja’s salt lakes, Murcia city or Cartagena.

Orihuela suits couples, groups and longer-stay visitors who want a sunny Costa Blanca base with beaches, restaurants and practical amenities close at hand, without relying solely on a traditional package-resort feel.
