About Torrevieja holidays

Torrevieja is a lively coastal resort on Spain’s Costa Blanca, set between the Mediterranean and two large salt lagoons. It has a more lived-in feel than some purpose-built resorts, with a busy seafront, year-round local life, a large international community and plenty of choice for eating out. For UK holidaymakers, it works well if you want a beach break with everyday convenience, good-value restaurants and a relaxed Spanish seaside atmosphere.

The resort has several beaches, each with a slightly different feel. Playa del Cura is the most central, backed by cafés and the promenade, making it handy for a simple day by the sea. Playa de los Locos is another popular town beach, while La Mata, to the north, offers a longer stretch of sand and a more open setting. There are also smaller coves and bathing areas around the town, so it is easy to mix beach time with walks along the waterfront.

Torrevieja’s promenade and marina area are good places to start exploring. You can stroll out along the Dique de Levante breakwater, stop for a drink by the harbour or visit small local sights such as the Sea and Salt Museum. One of the area’s most distinctive attractions is the nearby salt lake landscape, especially Laguna Rosa, known for its pinkish colour in the right conditions. The surrounding natural park is popular for gentle walks, birdwatching and photography.

Food in Torrevieja is varied, with Spanish tapas bars, seafood restaurants, rice dishes, international menus and familiar options for British visitors. Evenings are generally sociable rather than intense, with bars, terraces and live music venues around the centre, marina and beach areas. It is not a major clubbing destination, but there is enough going on for relaxed nights out.

Torrevieja is also a practical base for exploring the southern Costa Blanca. La Mata, Guardamar del Segura, the Orihuela Costa beaches and Alicante are all popular day-trip options. With a warm climate, flat seafront walks and a wide range of accommodation, Torrevieja suits couples, friends and families looking for an easy coastal holiday with more local character than a self-contained resort complex.
