About Santa Susanna holidays

Santa Susanna is a relaxed seaside resort on Catalonia’s Maresme coast, often featured in Costa Brava holiday programmes thanks to its easy links with the better-known resorts to the north. Set between Pineda de Mar and Malgrat de Mar, it suits holidaymakers looking for a straightforward beach break with plenty of hotels, places to eat and simple days out nearby.

The main appeal is the long, wide beach, where coarse golden sand and shingle run alongside the resort. The seafront is backed by a promenade and hotel zone, making it easy to wander between the beach, cafés and accommodation without needing a car. The sea can deepen fairly quickly in places, so it is worth taking care if travelling with children or less confident swimmers.

Santa Susanna has a calm, family-friendly feel rather than a busy party atmosphere. Restaurants and bars are mostly clustered around the seafront, hotel areas and the main resort streets, with a mix of Spanish, Catalan and international menus. Evenings tend to revolve around relaxed meals, drinks on terraces and hotel entertainment, while neighbouring Malgrat de Mar offers a little more choice if you want a livelier night out.

There is more to the resort than the beach. The inland side of Santa Susanna has green hills, older farmhouses and walking routes that give a different view of the area. The resort is also well placed for exploring by train, with services along the coast towards Barcelona, making a day trip to the city a realistic option. In the other direction, you can visit nearby coastal towns, markets and coves around the southern edge of the Costa Brava.

Santa Susanna works best for travellers who want an easy, sun-and-sea holiday with good transport links and a quieter base than some of the larger resorts. It is practical, pleasant and uncomplicated, with enough restaurants, beach space and nearby excursions to fill a week without feeling hectic.
