Tossa de Mar is one of the Costa Brava’s most characterful seaside resorts, combining a traditional fishing-town feel with a scenic bay, a medieval old town and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. This fortified old town is Tossa de Mar’s standout sight, with cobbled lanes, stone towers and viewpoints over the bay. Just around the headland, Platja d’es Codolar is a smaller cove tucked beneath the walls, while Mar Menuda is popular for swimming and snorkelling thanks to its clearer, rockier edges.

Tossa de Mar suits travellers who want a coastal holiday with plenty of charm but without the full-on party feel of larger resorts nearby. Evenings are generally low-key, centred on seafront meals, tapas bars, ice cream shops and relaxed drinks rather than big clubs. The restaurant scene is one of its strengths, with seafood, paella, grilled fish and Catalan dishes widely available alongside familiar international options.

There is enough to do without needing a busy itinerary. You can wander the Vila Vella, visit the municipal museum, take a boat trip along the coast, or follow sections of the Camí de Ronda coastal path for clifftop views and access to nearby coves. The surrounding scenery is a big part of the appeal, with pine-covered hills dropping down to rocky bays and clear water.

Tossa de Mar is a good choice for couples, friends and families who prefer a more scenic, traditional base on the Costa Brava. It offers beaches, history, good food and easy-going evenings, with livelier Lloret de Mar close enough for a day or night out if you want a change of pace.
