Benalmadena Holidays

Benalmadena is one of the Costa del Sol’s most established holiday resorts, sitting between Torremolinos and Fuengirola with easy access from Malaga Airport. It suits UK holidaymakers who want a classic Spanish beach break with plenty close at hand, but it also has more variety than a simple seafront resort.

The main holiday area is Benalmadena Costa, where you’ll find a long promenade, sandy beaches and a good choice of cafés, bars and restaurants. Popular beaches include Santa Ana, Bil Bil and Malapesquera, with sunbeds, beach bars and watersports available in the busier months. The seafront is easy to wander, with places to stop for seafood, tapas, ice cream or a relaxed drink overlooking the Mediterranean.

Puerto Marina is one of Benalmadena’s best-known spots. Its distinctive architecture, moored boats, restaurants and cocktail bars make it a lively place by day and evening. Nightlife is generally easy-going around the resort, although the marina and Plaza Solymar area are the main places to head for later bars and a livelier atmosphere.

Away from the beach, Benalmadena has a few different sides. Arroyo de la Miel is the everyday town centre, useful for shops, local restaurants and the train station linking the resort with Malaga, the airport and Fuengirola. Benalmadena Pueblo, higher up the hillside, has a more traditional Andalusian feel, with whitewashed streets, viewpoints and a quieter pace. Nearby, the Buddhist Stupa and the Butterfly Park are popular places to visit.

For views, the cable car from Arroyo de la Miel up Mount Calamorro is a memorable option, especially on a clear day when you can see along the coast. Parque de la Paloma is another favourite, offering gardens, ponds and shaded paths close to the resort centre.

Benalmadena works well for couples, groups and families who want beaches, restaurants and things to do without needing a car. It is also a practical base for exploring the Costa del Sol, with Malaga city, Mijas Pueblo and Fuengirola all within easy reach.
