Coma is a relaxed Costa Dorada resort best suited to travellers who want a straightforward seaside holiday rather than a busy party base. It is generally associated with the Coma-ruga area of El Vendrell, on Tarragona’s coast, where the pace is easy-going and the main appeal is the long sandy shoreline, seafront walks and access to nearby Catalan towns.

The beach is the focus of most holidays here. The sand is wide and gently shelving in places, making it a pleasant choice for swimming, sunbathing and unhurried days by the Mediterranean. There is a promenade for strolling, with cafés and casual places to eat close to the water. In summer, the beachfront feels livelier, but the resort remains more low-key than larger Costa Dorada centres such as Salou.

Eating out is informal and typically Mediterranean, with restaurants serving seafood, rice dishes, tapas and familiar Spanish and Catalan favourites. You will also find simple cafés, ice-cream stops and bars around the seafront and resort streets. Nightlife is modest: expect a few relaxed bars and terrace drinks rather than large clubs or late-night entertainment districts.

For things to do away from the beach, Coma works well as a base for exploring this part of the Costa Dorada. El Vendrell has local shops and historic streets, while nearby Sant Salvador is known for its connection with cellist Pau Casals, including the Pau Casals Museum. Tarragona is a worthwhile day trip for Roman remains, old-town streets and harbour views. Families and theme-park fans can also travel to the Salou area for PortAventura World, though Coma itself has a quieter feel.

Coma suits couples, families and older travellers who prefer space, sea air and a calmer resort atmosphere. It is not the best choice if you want a packed nightlife scene, but it is a good option for a simple beach break with easy access to wider Costa Dorada sights.
