Fethiye Holidays

Fethiye is a laid-back harbour resort on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, set around a wide bay with forested hills behind it and easy access from Dalaman Airport. It suits holidaymakers who want a proper working town as well as a holiday base, with a marina, waterfront promenade, local markets and plenty of places to eat without feeling cut off from everyday Turkish life.

The centre is best enjoyed at an easy pace. You can stroll along the harbour, watch the gulets and yachts come and go, then wander into Paspatur, the old town area, where narrow lanes are lined with shops, cafés and small bars. Fethiye’s fish market is a popular evening spot: choose your seafood from the stalls and have it cooked at one of the surrounding restaurants. You’ll also find Turkish grills, meze, pide, kebabs and international options throughout the resort.

Fethiye has its own beach area at Çalış, a relaxed stretch of sand and shingle across the bay, known for sunset views and a seafront lined with casual restaurants and bars. For more dramatic scenery, many visitors take a trip to nearby Ölüdeniz, famous for its Blue Lagoon, or join a boat trip from Fethiye harbour to bays and islands around the Gulf of Fethiye.

There is plenty to do beyond the beach. The Lycian rock tombs, including the Tomb of Amyntas, are carved into the cliffs above the town and are one of Fethiye’s most distinctive sights. The Tuesday market is good for browsing local produce, textiles and souvenirs, while day trips can include the abandoned village of Kayaköy, Saklıkent Gorge or scenic coastal walks on sections of the Lycian Way.

Evenings in Fethiye are generally relaxed rather than wild. The harbour, old town and Çalış promenade offer friendly bars, live music in some venues and late dinners by the water. Overall, Fethiye is a good choice for UK holidaymakers looking for sea views, boat trips, Turkish food, history and a comfortable resort atmosphere with more character than a purpose-built beach destination.
