Dalaman is one of Turkey’s best-loved holiday regions, used by UK travellers as the gateway to a scenic stretch of the south-west coast. Flights arrive at Dalaman Airport, with popular resorts spread along the Turquoise Coast, including Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Ovacık, Sarıgerme, Dalyan, Göcek, Marmaris and İçmeler. The region suits travellers who want warm weather, attractive scenery and a good choice of places to stay, from lively resort centres to quieter harbour towns and laid-back beach areas.

The coastline is a major part of Dalaman’s appeal. Ölüdeniz is known for its Blue Lagoon and mountain backdrop, while nearby beaches and coves can be reached by boat from Fethiye. Sarıgerme offers a broad sandy beach close to the airport, making it a practical choice for shorter breaks. Around Marmaris and İçmeler, the coastline is framed by pine-covered hills, with waterfront promenades, boat trips and plenty of restaurants. Göcek has a more marina-focused feel, popular for sailing and day cruises around sheltered bays and islands.

Dalaman holidays are not only about the beach. Dalyan is one of the region’s most distinctive spots, set beside a river with views of ancient Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliffs. Boat trips run through the reed beds towards Iztuzu Beach, an important nesting area for loggerhead turtles. Fethiye is another useful base, with a working harbour, fish market, old town streets and access to nearby historical sites and walking routes. Adventurous travellers often head to Saklıkent Gorge or choose paragliding from Babadağ above Ölüdeniz.

Food is a highlight across the region. Expect Turkish breakfasts, grilled meats, fresh seafood, meze, gözleme and plenty of restaurants serving both local and international dishes. Resort areas vary in atmosphere: Marmaris is busier and more developed, İçmeler is calmer, Fethiye has a more lived-in harbour-town feel, and Dalyan is relaxed and low-rise. This variety is what makes the Dalaman region so useful for holidaymakers — it offers classic beach breaks, boat trips, nature, history and resort comforts within relatively easy reach of the airport.
