About Kalkan holidays

Kalkan is a small harbour resort on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, set between steep hills and the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. It has a more grown-up, relaxed feel than many larger resorts, with whitewashed houses, bougainvillaea-draped lanes and a pretty waterfront lined with boats and restaurants. Holidays here suit travellers who like good food, scenic views and a slower pace, while still having plenty to do nearby.

The old town is one of Kalkan’s main draws. Its narrow streets lead down to the harbour, passing boutique shops, cafés and rooftop restaurants along the way. Dining is a big part of the Kalkan experience, with Turkish meze, fresh seafood, grilled meats and Mediterranean dishes widely available. Many restaurants have roof terraces, making dinner with a sea view a typical evening treat.

Kalkan has a small pebble beach close to the harbour, with calm water that is usually good for swimming. Many visitors also spend time at the resort’s beach clubs, which are set on rocky platforms around the bay and often have sunbeds, ladders into the sea and waterfront cafés. For a classic sandy beach day, Kaputaş Beach is a short drive away and is known for its dramatic setting between cliffs. Patara Beach, one of the longest beaches in the area, is also within reach and combines wide sands with nearby ancient ruins.

Days in Kalkan can be as lazy or active as you choose. Popular options include boat trips around the bay, swimming stops in secluded coves, sea kayaking, and excursions to ancient sites such as Xanthos, Letoon and Patara. The surrounding coastline is hilly, so the resort is especially appealing if you enjoy big views, although some streets can be steep.

Nightlife in Kalkan is low-key rather than club-focused. Evenings tend to revolve around long dinners, harbour drinks and a gentle stroll through the old town. For UK holidaymakers looking for a scenic Turkish resort with character, excellent restaurants and easy access to beaches and historic sites, Kalkan is a strong choice.
