Marmaris is one of the best-known resorts on Turkey’s Dalaman coast, set around a wide, sheltered bay backed by pine-covered hills. The main beach runs close to the centre and continues along the promenade towards Siteler, often referred to as Long Beach. Marmaris is a good choice if you like having lots within easy reach. The waterfront promenade is ideal for evening walks, while the marina area has a smarter feel, with yachts, cafés and restaurants overlooking the harbour. Food options are wide-ranging, from Turkish grills, meze, pide and fresh seafood to familiar international menus aimed at holidaymakers. The old town and bazaar area are worth exploring for shops, souvenirs and a more traditional feel, though bargaining is part of the experience in many places.

There is plenty to do beyond the beach. Marmaris Castle, overlooking the harbour, gives a glimpse of the town’s history and offers views across the bay. Boat trips are a major part of holidays here, with routes visiting nearby coves, islands and swimming stops along the coast. Popular day trips also include Dalyan, known for its river setting, ancient rock tombs and nearby Iztuzu Beach.

After dark, Marmaris can be as lively or as low-key as you want it to be. The marina and seafront are good for relaxed meals and cocktails, while Bar Street is the main late-night area, with music bars and clubs open into the early hours in the summer season. Overall, Marmaris suits holidaymakers who want sunshine, scenery and a sociable resort with plenty of choice on the doorstep.
