About Son Bou holidays

Son Bou is a relaxed beach resort on Menorca’s south coast, best known for its long sweep of pale sand and easy-going holiday atmosphere. It is a good choice for UK holidaymakers who want a straightforward seaside break with plenty of space, calm surroundings and useful resort facilities close to hand.

The beach is the main reason many people choose Son Bou. It is widely regarded as the longest beach in Menorca, stretching for several kilometres, with soft sand and clear, shallow water that suits swimming and paddling when conditions are calm. The eastern end is closest to the resort’s hotels, apartments, bars and restaurants, while the beach becomes quieter as you walk west. Behind the sand are protected dunes and wetlands, so visitors are asked to use marked paths and respect the natural environment.

The resort itself is purpose-built but low-key, with a mix of hotels, apartment complexes and villas spread across the hillside and near the beach. Most of the dining and evening activity is centred around the commercial areas close to the seafront, where you will find casual restaurants, cafés, ice cream stops and family-friendly bars. Nightlife is generally gentle rather than lively, so Son Bou is better suited to relaxed evenings than late-night clubbing.

There are a few interesting things to see without travelling far. At the eastern end of the beach are the remains of an early Christian basilica, a small historic site that adds a little local character to the seafront. Walkers can also pick up sections of the Camí de Cavalls, Menorca’s coastal walking route, for views along the south coast. For a change of scene, the nearby inland town of Alaior offers a more traditional Menorcan feel, while the prehistoric site of Torre d’en Galmés is one of the island’s notable archaeological attractions.

Son Bou works particularly well for couples and families who want beach time, simple resort comforts and access to wider Menorca by car or organised excursion. It is not the island’s most traditional-looking resort, but its spacious beach, calm pace and practical facilities make it a consistently popular base.
