About Bourgas holidays

Bourgas, often written as Burgas, is one of Bulgaria’s main Black Sea holiday regions and a practical choice for UK travellers looking for a mix of beach resorts, historic coastal towns and natural scenery. The region stretches along the southern Bulgarian coast, with Bourgas city as its transport hub and a wide choice of places to stay nearby.

Sunny Beach is the best-known resort in the area, with a long sandy beach, plenty of hotels, restaurants and a lively summer atmosphere. Close by, Nessebar offers a very different feel, with a UNESCO-listed old town set on a small peninsula, cobbled lanes, medieval churches and sea views. For a more traditional coastal setting, Sozopol is a strong choice, combining beaches with an attractive old quarter of wooden houses, harbourfront restaurants and cultural sites.

Further along the coast, resorts such as Pomorie, Primorsko, Duni and Sveti Vlas each offer their own style, from relaxed seaside breaks to larger hotel complexes. The region’s beaches vary from busy, well-serviced resort sands to quieter stretches backed by dunes or woodland, particularly as you head south.

Bourgas is also worth exploring beyond the beach. The city has a pleasant Sea Garden, a seafront promenade and easy access to nearby lakes, which are known for birdlife. Pomorie is associated with salt production and mud treatments, while the southern part of the region reaches towards Strandzha Nature Park, an area of forests, villages and walking routes close to the Turkish border.

Food is another highlight of holidays in Bourgas. Menus typically include grilled fish, seafood, shopska salad, stuffed peppers, kebapche and local wines, with plenty of relaxed restaurants in the resorts and old coastal towns.

The region suits travellers who want a straightforward summer holiday with the option to add day trips, boat rides, water-based activities, historic sightseeing and nature. With Bourgas Airport serving the area in season, many resorts are within easy reach after arrival, making it a convenient base for a Bulgarian Black Sea holiday.
