About Cyprus holidays

Cyprus is a year-round Mediterranean favourite, combining beach resorts, ancient sights, mountain scenery and a relaxed food culture. For UK holidaymakers, most package holidays are based in the Republic of Cyprus, particularly around Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Protaras, each offering a slightly different style of break.

Paphos is a strong choice for couples, history lovers and anyone who likes a resort with character. Its harbour, seafront restaurants and UNESCO-listed archaeological sites make it easy to mix lazy days with cultural sightseeing. Limassol has a more cosmopolitan feel, with a long seafront, marina, old town and good access to wine villages and ancient Kourion. Larnaca is convenient for shorter breaks, with a palm-lined promenade, beach, salt lake and a traditional town centre.

On the east coast, Ayia Napa and Protaras are known for some of the island’s best sandy beaches and clear, shallow water. Ayia Napa has a livelier reputation, though it also has quieter coves and coastal walks, while Protaras is popular for relaxed beach holidays around Fig Tree Bay and nearby Cape Greco.

Away from the coast, the Troodos Mountains show a greener, slower side of Cyprus, with pine forests, monasteries, frescoed churches, walking trails and stone-built villages. Nicosia, the island’s inland capital, is worth visiting for museums, old city streets and a deeper look at Cyprus’s complex history.

Cypriot food is a major part of the experience. Tavernas serve meze, grilled halloumi, souvlaki, sheftalia, fresh fish, dips, olives and local wines, with plenty of familiar options in the main resorts too. The culture reflects Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot influences, alongside layers of Byzantine, Venetian, Ottoman and British history.

Cyprus suits beach holidays, fly-and-flop escapes, couples’ breaks, family holidays, walking trips, food-focused stays and culture-rich itineraries. With warm summers, mild winters and a good choice of resorts, it is easy to tailor a Cyprus holiday to be as relaxed or as active as you like.

Cyprus Holidays FAQs

Spring and autumn are ideal for warm weather, sightseeing and walking without the strongest summer heat. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, best suited to beach holidays. Winter is milder than the UK and can be good for exploring, although some resort facilities may be quieter.
