About Paphos holidays

Paphos is one of Cyprus’s most varied holiday regions, combining a long Mediterranean coastline with archaeological sites, traditional villages and easy access to the island’s wilder western landscapes. Centred on the harbour town of Paphos, the region suits travellers who want more than a simple fly-and-flop break, while still having plenty of beaches, hotels and relaxed places to eat by the sea.

Paphos town is a good base for sightseeing. The harbour area is home to Paphos Castle and is close to the UNESCO-listed Paphos Archaeological Park, where you can see remarkably preserved Roman mosaics, ancient villas and historic ruins overlooking the coast. The Tombs of the Kings, just north of the centre, is another major site and gives a strong sense of the area’s long history.

For beach holidays, popular areas include Coral Bay, a well-established resort known for its sandy beach and calm swimming conditions, and quieter coastal spots around Kissonerga, Chloraka and Peyia. The coastline is a mix of sandy bays, rocky coves and clear water, with boat trips, snorkelling and coastal walks available in suitable conditions. Further north, the Akamas Peninsula offers a more rugged side of Cyprus, with nature trails, viewpoints and access to places such as the Blue Lagoon by boat from Latchi.

Away from the shore, the Paphos region becomes greener and more rural, with hillside villages, vineyards and tavernas serving Cypriot dishes such as grilled halloumi, souvlaki, sheftalia and fresh fish. Villages including Kathikas and the surrounding wine-growing areas are popular for a slower-paced day out, especially for travellers hiring a car.

Paphos has a wide choice of accommodation, from seafront hotels and self-catering apartments to quieter countryside stays. The region is particularly appealing for couples, history lovers, walkers and anyone who wants a holiday that balances beach time with culture and scenery. With direct flights from the UK to Paphos International Airport, it is also one of the most convenient parts of Cyprus for a Mediterranean break.
