Paralimni Holidays

Paralimni is a relaxed, year-round town in south-eastern Cyprus, well suited to holidaymakers who want a more local base within easy reach of the coast. It is not a purpose-built beach resort in the same way as nearby Protaras, but that is part of its appeal: the centre has everyday Cypriot life, traditional churches, bakeries, cafés and tavernas, while the beaches and coves of the east coast are only a short drive away.

The town centre is easy-going rather than flashy, with a pleasant main square and several churches, including Agios Georgios and older stone-built chapels that give the area a traditional feel. Around Paralimni you will find supermarkets, shops and casual places to eat, making it practical for self-catering holidays as well as hotel stays. Food is a strong reason to stay here, especially if you enjoy grilled meats, fresh salads, halloumi, seafood and generous meze in relaxed local restaurants.

For beach days, most visitors head towards Kapparis and Protaras. Kapparis has smaller sandy coves and a quieter feel, while Protaras offers a wider choice of beaches, seafront restaurants and watersports. Fig Tree Bay and Konnos Bay are among the better-known nearby spots, both popular for swimming in clear, calm water during the main holiday season. Having a car is useful if you want to explore several beaches, although local buses and taxis can also help with shorter journeys.

Nightlife in Paralimni itself is low-key, centred on cafés, bars and restaurants rather than late clubs. If you want a livelier evening, Protaras is close by for family-friendly bars and seafront drinks, while Ayia Napa has a much bigger nightlife scene.

Popular things to do include visiting nearby coastal paths, taking boat trips from the Protaras area, exploring Cape Greco National Forest Park, and spending time in neighbouring villages such as Deryneia. Paralimni Lake, a seasonal wetland, is also part of the local landscape, though it is best appreciated as a nature area rather than a visitor attraction. Overall, Paralimni suits travellers who like a quieter, practical base with easy access to beaches, restaurants and the wider Famagusta coast.
