Protaras Holidays

Protaras is a relaxed beach resort on the south-east coast of Cyprus, known for clear, shallow water, soft sandy bays and a holiday atmosphere that suits couples, families and anyone wanting an easy-going break by the sea. It has a more laid-back feel than nearby Ayia Napa, but still offers plenty of places to eat, drink and enjoy the evenings.

The resort’s best-known beach is Fig Tree Bay, a sheltered stretch of sand with calm, turquoise water that is popular for swimming and snorkelling. Around the coast you’ll also find smaller coves and scenic bathing spots, including areas towards Green Bay and Konnos Bay, where the rocky coastline and clear water are ideal for a quieter swim. Many beaches in and around Protaras have sunbeds, watersports and seafront cafés in season, making days by the water straightforward and comfortable.

Protaras has a good choice of restaurants, from casual Cypriot tavernas to international places serving familiar holiday favourites. Fresh fish, grilled meats, meze and local wines are easy to find, especially along the main resort strip and near the seafront. Evenings are generally sociable rather than wild, with cocktail bars, live music venues, family-friendly entertainment and relaxed terraces for a drink after dinner.

There is more to do than simply sunbathe. A walk up to the Church of Profitis Elias is popular for the views over Protaras and the coastline, especially around sunset. Boat trips run along the coast in season, often visiting sea caves, Blue Lagoon-style swimming spots and the Cape Greco area. Cape Greco National Forest Park is also close by for coastal walks, viewpoints and photo stops, particularly around the sea caves and natural rock formations.

Protaras is a practical choice for UK holidaymakers who want attractive beaches, a compact resort centre and easy access to nearby sights. It works well for a straightforward fly-and-flop holiday, but also gives enough options for day trips, coastal walks and relaxed evenings out.
