Soma Bay is a peaceful Red Sea resort on a peninsula south of Hurghada, known for clear water, wide sandy beaches and a more relaxed, self-contained feel than Egypt’s busier resort areas. It suits holidaymakers who want a comfortable beach break with good hotel facilities, water sports and a quieter evening scene rather than a lively town-centre atmosphere.

The coastline is the main draw. Many hotels sit directly on long, well-kept beaches with shallow areas for paddling and swimming, plus jetties or reef access for snorkelling. The Red Sea here is popular with divers and snorkellers thanks to its warm water, visibility and coral marine life. Local dive centres offer trips and courses, while boat excursions can take you to nearby reefs for a fuller day on the water.

Soma Bay is also one of the better-known spots in the Hurghada region for wind-powered water sports. The open setting and regular breezes make it popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with lessons available for beginners as well as rental options for experienced visitors. Away from the sea, the resort has a championship golf course and spa facilities, including thalassotherapy at some hotels, making it a good choice for a slower-paced wellness-style escape.

Dining is largely based around the resort hotels, with buffet restaurants, à la carte venues and beachside bars depending on where you stay. You should expect a quieter, hotel-led experience rather than a large choice of independent restaurants. Nightlife is similarly low-key, typically centred on hotel lounges, live music, evening shows or relaxed drinks by the sea.

For days out, Hurghada is within reach for shopping, the marina and a livelier change of scene, while desert excursions such as 4x4 trips or quad biking are widely offered in the region. Longer cultural trips to Luxor may also be possible, although they involve a long day of travel. Overall, Soma Bay is best for beach time, snorkelling, diving, water sports and unwinding in a calm Red Sea setting.
