About Corfu holidays

Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands, sitting off Greece’s north-west coast, and it has a character that feels distinct from many of the Aegean islands. Its green hills, olive groves, Venetian-influenced architecture and varied coastline make it a rewarding choice for holidays that combine beach time with scenery, food and exploring.

The island’s coast offers plenty of choice. Paleokastritsa is one of Corfu’s best-known beauty spots, with small bays, clear water and dramatic headlands, while Glyfada and Agios Gordios are popular for wide sandy beaches backed by hills. On the north coast, Sidari is known for its unusual sandstone formations around the Canal d’Amour, and nearby resorts such as Roda and Acharavi have a relaxed, practical feel with long beaches and a good choice of places to eat. Kassiopi, in the north-east, combines a harbour setting with small coves and views towards the Albanian coast.

Corfu Town is a major highlight and well worth time away from the beach. Its UNESCO-listed old town has narrow lanes, elegant arcades, churches, small squares and two imposing fortresses overlooking the sea. The mix of Greek, Venetian, French and British influences gives the town a distinctive look, and it is one of the best places on the island for cafés, restaurants and evening strolls.

Food is another reason to choose Corfu. Alongside classic Greek dishes, you will find local specialities such as sofrito, pastitsada and bourdeto, often served in family-run tavernas. The island is also known for kumquat products, especially liqueurs and preserves.

For days out, visitors can explore mountain villages, walk sections of the Corfu Trail, take boat trips along the coast or visit viewpoints such as Angelokastro, a hilltop Byzantine castle above Paleokastritsa. The island suits a wide range of holiday styles, from quiet coastal stays to resort-based breaks with restaurants, bars and easy beach access. With its mix of attractive resorts, green landscapes and historic sights, Corfu is a strong choice for UK holidaymakers looking for a Greek island with plenty of variety.

Corfu Holidays FAQs

For a first visit, many travellers like Paleokastritsa for scenery, Kassiopi for a harbour-resort feel, or Roda and Acharavi for relaxed beach holidays with useful facilities. Corfu Town is best if you want history, restaurants and sightseeing rather than a classic beach-resort stay.
