About Kanoni holidays

Kanoni is a scenic, laid-back resort area on the Kanoni peninsula, just south of Corfu Town. It is best known for one of Corfu’s most photographed views: the small white Vlacherna Monastery connected to the shore by a causeway, with Mouse Island, or Pontikonisi, just beyond it. For many visitors, this view is the main reason to stay here, especially in the early morning or at sunset when the light over the lagoon is at its best.

This is not a typical big beach resort. Kanoni has coastal spots and places to swim nearby, but holidaymakers looking for long sandy beaches may prefer to travel to other parts of Corfu for beach days. What Kanoni does offer is a peaceful base with lovely viewpoints, waterside walks and easy access to Corfu Town. The resort is particularly suited to couples, independent travellers and anyone who wants a quieter stay close to culture, restaurants and transport links.

Eating and drinking in Kanoni is relaxed, with cafés, tavernas and restaurants around the viewpoints and along nearby streets. Many places make the most of the famous outlook over the monastery, lagoon and airport runway. Nightlife is low-key rather than lively, so evenings are more about dinner with a view or a quiet drink. For a wider choice of bars, restaurants and evening atmosphere, Corfu Town is only a short journey away.

Popular things to do include walking down to Vlacherna Monastery, taking a small boat to Mouse Island when services are running, and watching aircraft land and take off from the nearby airport runway — a distinctive Kanoni experience. Nearby, the Mon Repos estate and the archaeological area of Paleopolis add a cultural element, while Corfu Town’s old fortress, narrow lanes, museums and harbour are easy to reach by bus, taxi or car.

Because Kanoni sits close to the airport, some aircraft noise should be expected, particularly in the busier summer months. For many visitors, the convenience and views outweigh this, but it is worth considering if you are sensitive to noise. Overall, Kanoni is a good choice for a scenic Corfu holiday with easy access to the island’s capital rather than a full-on beach resort stay.
