Lygaria, a neighbouring bay, is another popular place for a beach change and seaside meal. The rocky edges around the coves can also be good for snorkelling when the sea is calm.

For days out, Aghia Pelagia is well placed for visiting Heraklion, with its harbour, museums, shops and restaurants. The Palace of Knossos, one of Crete’s major archaeological sites, is also reachable as a half-day trip. Hiring a car gives the most flexibility for exploring villages, beaches and countryside in the surrounding area, although local buses and taxis can be useful for simpler journeys. Overall, Aghia Pelagia offers a convenient, scenic and easy-going Cretan holiday with the sea at its centre.
