Rethymno’s Venetian harbour and old town are within easy reach, while Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos are possible as a longer day out. Nearby options also include Melidoni Cave, Arkadi Monastery and the pottery village of Margarites.

Car hire is useful if you want to explore beyond the resort, although buses and organised excursions may suit those who prefer not to drive. Overall, holidays in Panormos are about simple beach days, good food, Cretan character and a slower pace, with enough nearby sights to add variety to a relaxed stay.
