About Rhodes holidays

Rhodes is one of the most popular Greek islands for UK holidaymakers, offering a good mix of beach resorts, historic sights and varied scenery. It sits in the Dodecanese, close to the Turkish coast, and is known for long summers, clear seas and a coastline that ranges from sandy bays to pebble coves and dramatic headlands.

Rhodes Town is the island’s cultural highlight. Its UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town is enclosed by imposing walls and filled with cobbled lanes, courtyards, mosques, churches and the Palace of the Grand Master. The newer part of town has a harbourfront, shops, restaurants and a choice of bars, making it a strong base for travellers who want sightseeing as well as easy access to the coast.

For classic beach holidays, Faliraki is one of the best-known resorts, with a long sandy beach, plenty of places to eat and a lively atmosphere in the main season. Lindos is very different, with whitewashed streets, rooftop restaurants and an ancient acropolis overlooking the sea. Its nearby bays are among the island’s most photographed spots. Families and couples often look at resorts such as Pefkos, Kolymbia, Kiotari and Ixia, depending on whether they prefer a quieter village feel, larger hotels, or convenient access to Rhodes Town.

The east coast is generally where many of the island’s most sheltered beaches are found, including Tsambika, Anthony Quinn Bay and Agathi. The west coast is breezier and popular with windsurfers, especially around Ialysos and Prasonisi, where the Aegean and Mediterranean meet at the island’s southern tip.

Away from the resorts, Rhodes has pine-covered hills, inland villages and scenic driving routes. The Valley of the Butterflies is a well-known nature spot in summer, while Seven Springs offers shaded woodland walks. Food is a major part of the experience too, from relaxed tavernas serving grilled fish, meze and local cheeses to rooftop dining in Lindos and harbour restaurants in Rhodes Town.

Holidays to Rhodes suit travellers who want a Greek island with reliable sunshine, varied resorts, strong historical interest and plenty to explore beyond the hotel.
