Firostefani Holidays

Firostefani is a peaceful clifftop resort on Santorini’s caldera, set just north of Fira and looking out across the volcanic cliffs, the Aegean and the island’s famous sunsets. It suits holidaymakers who want the classic Santorini views without staying right in the busiest part of the capital. The atmosphere is calm and scenic, with narrow lanes, whitewashed buildings, small churches and terrace restaurants making it a lovely base for a relaxed break.

The resort is compact and easy to explore on foot, although the lanes and steps can be steep in places. Much of its appeal is simply wandering along the caldera path, stopping for photographs and enjoying the view towards the volcano and neighbouring islands. One of the best-known sights is the blue-domed Three Bells of Fira, often photographed from the viewpoint above the church. From Firostefani, you can also walk south into Fira for museums, shops and a wider choice of restaurants, or north towards Imerovigli for more dramatic caldera viewpoints. Confident walkers often continue along the famous route towards Oia, though it is best done with suitable footwear and plenty of water.

Firostefani has a good selection of places to eat, from traditional tavernas to smart caldera-facing restaurants. Many focus on Greek and Mediterranean dishes, with seafood, grilled meats, salads and Santorini specialities commonly found on menus. Evenings tend to be relaxed rather than lively, centred on sunset drinks, dinner with a view and quiet cocktail bars. For late-night bars and more of a buzz, nearby Fira is the better option and is close enough to reach on foot or by taxi.

There is no beach in Firostefani itself, as the resort sits high above the caldera rather than on the shore. If you want beach time, Santorini’s black-sand beaches such as Kamari and Perissa can be reached by bus, taxi or hire car. Many visitors choose Firostefani for its views, walking, dining and easy access to the rest of the island, rather than for a traditional beach resort feel.
