Oia is not a beach resort in the usual sense. Ammoudi Bay has clear water and places to swim nearby, but it is rocky rather than sandy. Katharos Beach, a short distance from the village, is a quieter volcanic beach with dark sand and pebbles, though facilities are limited compared with Santorini’s better-known beach areas.

Restaurants in Oia range from simple tavernas to refined caldera-view dining, with seafood, Greek classics and Mediterranean menus widely available. Nightlife is low-key, centred on wine bars, cocktails and relaxed evening meals rather than clubs. Oia is ideal for couples, photographers and anyone looking for one of Santorini’s most scenic and atmospheric places to stay.
