About Orosei holidays

Orosei is a characterful small town on Sardinia’s east coast, set a little inland from the wide beaches of the Gulf of Orosei. It suits holidaymakers who want a relaxed base with local atmosphere rather than a purpose-built resort. The old centre has narrow lanes, stone houses, small piazzas and a good choice of places to eat, especially if you enjoy simple Sardinian cooking, seafood, pasta, local cheeses and regional wines.

The nearest coast is only a short drive away, with Marina di Orosei offering a long stretch of sand and shingle backed by open scenery. Nearby beaches such as Su Barone and Osalla feel spacious and natural, with pinewoods, dunes and clear water typical of this part of Sardinia. Facilities vary by beach and season, so it is worth taking water, shade and anything else you need if you are heading to the quieter spots.

Orosei is also a practical base for exploring the wider Gulf of Orosei area. Boat trips run from nearby coastal departure points to famous coves along the gulf, where limestone cliffs, turquoise water and sea caves create some of Sardinia’s most striking scenery. Inland, the Cedrino river area and the surrounding countryside offer gentle drives, walks and viewpoints, while villages such as Galtellì give a glimpse of traditional Barbagia culture.

Evenings in Orosei are generally low-key. Expect relaxed dinners, a stroll through the old town and a drink in a café or bar rather than late-night clubbing. This makes it a good choice for couples, independent travellers and families who prefer a slower pace. Hiring a car is useful, as the best beaches and scenic spots are spread out and public transport can be limited. Overall, Orosei combines historic charm, access to beautiful coastline and an authentic Sardinian feel, making it a rewarding alternative to the island’s busier beach resorts.
