The resort is spread out rather than compact, with different areas offering slightly different atmospheres. Central Hammamet has the traditional medina, a small walled old town with whitewashed lanes, craft shops and cafés, while Yasmine Hammamet is a purpose-built resort area with a marina, seafront promenade, restaurants and larger hotel complexes.

Eating out in Hammamet is straightforward, with a mix of hotel dining, casual cafés and restaurants serving Tunisian and international dishes. Local specialities often include couscous, grilled fish, brik pastries and spicy harissa-based flavours, though milder options are usually easy to find. Evenings are generally low-key compared with major party resorts. You’ll find hotel entertainment, bars, shisha cafés and some late-night venues, particularly around Yasmine Hammamet, but the overall mood is more relaxed than rowdy.

There are several worthwhile things to do when you want a break from the beach. Hammamet’s medina and kasbah are good for a gentle wander, with views over the coast from the old walls. The International Cultural Centre, set in the former Villa Sebastian, is another notable stop, especially for those interested in architecture and gardens. Nearby Nabeul is known for pottery and makes an easy outing, while longer day trips can take you to Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said.

Hammamet suits couples, friends and families looking for a classic Tunisia holiday with beaches, warm weather, resort comforts and a touch of local character. It is not the most traditional town in Tunisia, particularly around Yasmine, but it offers a practical and enjoyable base for a laid-back coastal break.
